The village of Villafranca del Bierzo is a charming medieval village with a large number of attractions despite its relatively small size. Its origins date back to the pre-Roman and Roman periods. The Roman Empire developed here one of the largest and most fragmented gold mines in the peninsula. Today, the city is known for its artistic and cultural heritage, for its importance as part of the Camino when you can see the local castle and a number of ancient and impressive churches.
