Located at the foot of the Rio Miño, the charming town of Portomarín is a beautiful town with a lot of history behind it. The ancient village of Portomarín developed in the Middle Ages, at the foot of a Roman bridge over the Miño River. In 1962, a reservoir was built on the Miño River, flooding the original village. For this reason, the civic and religious buildings of the village were moved to a new location on the higher part of the mountain adjacent to the original village, The remains of which can be seen alongside the river.
